Buying a new play structure from Rona or Costco? Or just moving a play structure from one house to another? There are certain tools and tips you should be aware of to make the assembly process go smoothly.
Tools Required
- Tape measure
- Hammer
- Hand saw
- Screwdriver
- Power drill
- Sledge hammer
- Wood chips (or other soft ground cover)
Assembly from a Kit
If you are assembling from a kit, be sure to watch the instruction video (if enclosed). Most instruction manuals that come with play structure kits are quite detailed and precise, so if you make accurate lumber cuts, you can minimize waste. If you decide to build from a kit, you can still choose additional components to add on, but keep in mind that the more accessories you add, the more it will cost.
It’s also very important to consider what will be used as a ground cover beneath the play structure. For safety reasons, grass, gravel or concrete will not provide a proper cushion for falls. Wood chips are ideal and can often be obtained for free from tree maintenance companies. Whatever you decide to use as ground cover, keep the safety of your children in mind.
